Saying Hello
When I was one and twenty
Searching for the great
American dream
Falling in love with
a tight fitting sweater
Losing my mind to a pair
of blue jeans
Loving with our eyes
closed
Striking the perfect
pose
We opened our eyes about
a year later
Couldn't believe we had
nowhere to go
We said good-bye; I guess
we never said hello
I guess we never said
hello
When I was three and twenty
Promised myself I wouldn't
fall again
Told myself I could have
it both ways
Playing it safe but playing
to win
Keeping our eyes open
wide
Making love side by side
We had enough about a
year later
Never dreaming we got
bored with the show
We said good-bye; I know
we never said hello
I know we never said
hello
And I use to say that
love was such an easy game
For poets and dreamers
and jokers who play the fool
After all these years
I think it's time to grow up
It's never as easy as
living by the golden rule
When I was five and twenty
Carving a niche between
black and white
When you take off those
rose colored glasses
Emerald city don't look
so bright
There ain't no land of
Oz
And Peter Pan fought
a lost cause
I had enough about a
year later
Looking for answers to
questions I know
Running from myself I
knew I had nowhere to go
I knew I had nowhere
to go
And I use to say that
love was such an easy game
For poets and dreamers
and jokers who play the fool
After all these years
I'm sick and tired of growing up
There's got to be more
than living by the golden rule
Now that I'm six and twenty
Getting ready to get
back in the game
Love is more than a tight
fitting sweater
love is more than sex
with a different name
When I first saw you
Your eyes just looked
on through
My days of running are
over
I know just what I'm
going to do
This time I'm going to
say hello to you
Going to say hello to
you
My days of running are
over
I know just what I'm
going to do
This time I'm going to
say hello to you
Going to say hello to
you
