Seven Simple Ideas for Living

Seven Simple Ideas for Living

I have learned many things in my 41 years. Here are seven and a concluding thought I would like to share with the next generation.

First, it is impossible to receive love and respect from others without first loving and respecting yourself.

Second, if there is something about another person that really bugs you, examine yourself honestly to see if the same trait resides in you. Examine, be honest, learn, and change.

Third, when hard times come (and they always do) remember they won't last forever. Try to see what lesson you can learn as you move through the hard times and beyond. Major hint: focus on helping others in some way rather than on your personal plight.

Fourth, never lend money to friends or family unless you are prepared to never see that money again. An old friend shared this wisdom with me many years ago and it has been a real gem. I have lent money freely to friends with no expectation of receiving repayment, enjoyed being able to give, and was sometimes presently surprised when the money was returned.

Fifth, write down goals you want to achieve in different areas of your life-personal, health, relationship, business, education, etc. There is magic in writing the goals down. I once had a supervisor who had me write down 10 goals at the beginning of the year. She filed the goals away. One year later, I was surprised to see how many of the goals I had achieved. This is a lesson that stuck with me and has served me well.

Sixth, I recommend reading a verse or two from Proverbs (in the Bible) every day. There are nuggets of wisdom there that will serve you well. You do not need to be Christian or Jewish to benefit from the wisdom of Proverbs. Highly recommended reading.

Seventh, live every day as if it were your last. Never let an opportunity to give a kind word, a smile, some encouragement, or an expression of love slip by. Those moments can be more important than you will ever know.

Finally, simply be the best YOU you can be and the world will be a better place. You were put on this earth with special gifts and talents-use them!

Helping Others, Helps You.
