He Who Dies with the Most Joys Wins
The best advice my father ever gave me is this:
In life, you have three things: a home, a job, and a way to get from one to the other. If you're happy, you don't need to live in a mansion, you don't have to be the CEO of General Motors, and you don't have to drive a Lexus; you've already got the game beat.
If you're not happy, then nothing material in this world will make you happy, because true happiness comes from within. No one says, on their deathbed, "If only I'd spent more time at the office," or, "My only regret is that I didn't have a bigger house." When you die, you only take your memories with you, and it's the quality of those memories which determines your true wealth. He who dies with the most joys wins.
